Lets Make! : Quiver

Lets be honest here archery is an expensive hobby and sport. No matter how much you try to keep the expenses down its only a matter of time before equipment becomes damaged or you "need" to have some piece of wonderful overpriced gear in order to improve your shot or simply make life easier.

We here at JLA know all about this and have decided to try and find the very best of the internet's DIY solutions for hobbyist and sport's archers on a budget.

Project 1: The quiver

It really is only a matter of time before dragging around your arrows in a cardboard tube or worse loose becomes not only a hassle but potentially dangerous.
this simple PVC and Canvas quiver can not only solve the problem of storage but make a durable and stylish and very personalised sports draw quiver that can be used on the hip for conventional side drawing as well as traditional back drawing with a few very simply adaptations.

Before following the link you will need:
- A piece of 12" PVC tubeing
- wood/plastic or PVC to block one end of the tube
- cheap nylon webbing and canvas for cosmetics

Good luck to all members and fans in your build and i hope you post your results in our comment section!

Range Update #2

After the fun and frolics of playing with vikings over the weekend JLA has some other good news in the form of a local shoot location with potential for both indoor and out door shooting in the very near future right here in Holywood.

With a little luck and some persuasion one of our founding members managed to persuade not only two qualified archery instructors to come along and teach but may also have secured the range!

All we have to do now is secure/buy/make target faces and safety netting and at the very least those members with bows will be able to shoot and soon after that (and with a little funding and luck) we can open to the public.

Fingers crossed.

Magnus Vikings Association open day

The Magnus Vikings (http://magnusvikings.com/) Opened hearth and home to JLA-Holywood yesterday as part of our Archery outreach and membership association program resulting in no less than four of our senior members consenting to join the ravenous horde as they dress up, accurate live action reenactment of historical events and generally have a great time playing around with traditional viking swords, axes, shields & longbows in period attire.

With this new found historical link we at JLA intend to have the (presently) all female archery team known as Friggas Furies up to the range as soon as possible for an open day and put on a show of traditional longbow archery and hopefully a BBQ if the weather holds.

If you are interested the Magnus Vikings are always available for contact and we at JLA heartily encourage you and your families to get up and get involved in this incredibly entertaining pastime.

Membership fees:

*waged (working) individual - £15
*waged (both working) family - £20
*waged (one working) family - £15
*unwaged (non working) family - £10
*unwaged (non working) individual -£8

Fees are paid primarily for insurance primarily due to the nature of events and the potential for injury or harm to both members and the public.

Welcome To Just Like Archery

Welcome to the Just Like Archery Blog.

On this site you will find:

-Updates on the current ongoing setup of our club
-Information on new members
-updates on events and locations
-D.I.Y and make do bow and archery workshops from around the web
-Meetings and information on instruction for new and established archers

Just Like Archery is dedicated to bringing the fun back into archery without relying on the stifled and limited nature normally associated with more traditional archery associations while keeping safety firmly in mind.

To our minds Archery should be fun and a personal expression so there is no limitation on what type of bow you use so long as you are comfortable and competent using it. This means highly specialized compound bows can be found right alongside traditional longbows on our shoot days abet on different target faces.

Keeping up to date with everything from our disabled and child friendly policies will be published in .pdf formt as soon as possible as will all pertaining information for insuarance from ArcheryGB in future updates.
